Disney World Resort Hotels
Staying In Disney World Hotels
If you are planning the bulk of your Orlando holiday around Walt Disney World activities, you may want to consider Disney World hotels. Personally, I choose to stay in a private villa away form the parks for our 2 week stay but many people love the non-stop Disney experience.
Staying in Walt Disney World hotels comes with many benefits. There are a lot of hotels to choose from and I have compiled a list at the bottom of this page. There are Disney World hotels for almost all budgets are available and even the lowest cost hotels come with all of the below benefits.
Disney World Hotels – The Benefits
An extra month of FastPass+ reservations
One of the great benefits of staying in Walt Disney World hotels is the extra 30 day window for booking your Disney FastPass+. Disney hotel guests can reserve a ride or show on the FastPass+ app 60 days before their visit. For everyone else it is 30 days before their visit. This great benefit allows you to snap up the most sought after rides. Rides like Avatar Flight Of Passage are almost impossible to reserve on FastPass+ unless you are a Disney hotel guest.
You can read more about it in my FastPass+ dedicated page.
Extra Magic Hours
If you are staying in Disney World hotels, you are eligible for Disney’s Extra Magic Hours in the parks. Let’s say you are visiting Hollywood Studios and you see that the park opens at 9am and closes at 10pm. If this day is showing Extra Magic Hours of 10pm to 12am, you will be allowed to stay at the park 2 hours after off-site guests have left. You must have a valid theme park ticket and show your resort ID or MagicBand to Disney staff to qualify.
Every day is a Extra Magic Hours day in at least one of the Disney theme parks. Check the Disney World Website Calendar to find out what EMH days are pencilled in for each specific park. It could be a good idea to plan what Disney parks you visit around the Extra Magic Hours slots. Not every ride and show operates during Extra Magic Hours so check the Disney website for specifics.
FREE parking at theme parks
Staying in Walt Disney World Hotels gets you free parking at the theme parks. This saves $25 a day at the rate at time of writing. The downside is you have to pay for your hotel parking for each day of your stay. The hotel parking isn’t as expensive as the theme parks parking and the price depends on the hotel you stay in. You must show your valid Disney Resort hotel identification to get the free parking at the theme parks.
Each person staying in a Disney World hotel will get a free MagicBand. You can read more about MagicBands in the Walt Disney World Resort section of the guide.
Disney’s Magical Express – Airport shuttle
Disney’s Magical Express Service is a complimentary bus service that collects you from the airport and takes you to your Disney hotel. The service is also free on your return to the airport. A complimentary luggage delivery service is also included.
Service Your Way
When you check in to some Disney hotels you may be able to cancel the scheduled room cleaning service – ‘Service Your Way’ and take a $10 a night gift card instead. You cannot pick and choose your dates so it is an ‘all or nothing’ offer. You must have your room cleaned on the last night of your stay. The hotels that are part of the program are marked with a * in the hotels list at the bottom of the page.
Travelling around the Walt Disney Resort is also complimentary for Disney hotel guests. Disney buses, ferryboats and monorail services will take you to all theme parks and other Walt Disney World locations.
Disney Dining Plan (DDP)
The Disney Dining Plan is a meal plan that entitles you to at least two meal credits and two snacks for each night stay of your holiday. There are 3 dining plans available –
The Quick Service Disney Dining Plan – Two quick service meal credits, two snack credits, one drink per meal and one refillable resort mug.
The Regular Disney Dining Plan – One quick service meal credit, one table service meal credit, two snack credits, one drink per meal and one refillable resort mug.
The Deluxe Disney Dining Plan – Three meal credits, two snack credits, one drink per meal and one refillable resort mug. The meal credits can be used for quick service or table service meals.
Booking a show package like Fantasmic will cost you 2 of your table service meal entitlements. Reservations can be booked 180 days in advance and some restaurants may be still tough to book. The plan is very popular so you need to be quick off the mark to book a popular restaurant.
How much it costs
The price for the Disney Dining Plan costs differ for each plan. Here are the 2019 prices including tax for adults and children…
Quick Service Disney Dining Plan
From £39 per night per adult ages 10 and up
From £16 per night per child ages 3 to 9
Regular Disney Dining Plan
From £56 per night per adult ages 10 and up
From £19 per night per child age 3 to 9
Deluxe DIsney Dining Plan
From £86 per night per adult ages 10 and up
From £30 per night per child age 3 to 9
Every so often Disney offer the Disney Dining Plan FREE to guests who stay on various dates in August and September. You may need to book a year in advance to qualify for this deal. Ask your tour operator at time of booking if this deal is currently on.
Some of the rules
Every person in your party over 3 years old must buy the plan for the whole duration of the stay.
You must book the hotel, buy a Disney theme park base ticket and purchase the DDP package from the same tour operator.
You can’t add the Disney Dining Plan hen you arrive at Disney. It must be purchased before you travel.
Disney Annual Pass holders can also buy the Disney Dining Plan, even if they are not booked into a Disney hotel.
What Mr Brit thinks of the DDP
Orlando can be a very cheap place to eat but Disney World isn’t. Eating Disney food for a full 2 weeks may be an issue for you. There are many great places to eat and experience just a short drive from Disney. Eating outside of Disney could save you many hundreds of pounds and you would have more choice. I wouldn’t pay for the DDP Personally.
